Did you know that 80% of Internet content engagement is off site, such as links shared on Facebook, votes on Digg or social bookmarks on Delicious? These extra touch points drive traffic back to your website / blog and need to be considered in your social media approach as the Internet has drastically changed even in the last year alone. Consider implementing these techniques in your strategy:
Cross-posting Links Today, creating a blog post is just the beginning of the process to leverage social media syndication and discovery. The next time you make a blog post, try cross-posting a link to the article on Twitter, Facebook and even LinkedIn groups.
Bookmarks & Keyword Tags Use social bookmarking services such as Reddit.com, Delicious.com, Stumbleupon.com and Digg.com to create more "traffic bridges" back to your content posts. Remember to leverage the keyword tags that each service offers so you match the keywords that people may use for discovering your content.
Timing, Timing, Timing The time of day you release content on the internet is also very important. If you are publishing a Web video to your blog, then you may wish to send this out around lunch time. People will be more likely to turn up the audio on a video when others are out to lunch. Better yet, after prime-time TV hours, such as 11pm is a good time for video syndication as people are checking up on videos and the social web before they go to bed. Targeting the correct time of day and day of week will increase your targeted traffic, word-of-mouth and conversions substantially.
